Steve Jobs detested working from home and I cannot imagine his position would have changed much if he were still around in 2022, however, if it did change, he might have compromised on three days a week. Still, Steve stated that "creativity comes from spontaneous meetings, from random discussions.” You run into someone, you ask what they're doing, you say 'Wow,' and soon you're cooking up all sorts of ideas." If you go down the Steve Jobs rabbit hole further, you can find out how Steve Jobs met with Jon Ives when he came back to Apple in 1997. At that time, Apple was kind of lame making horrible creations like the Apple Pippin. Outside of the hardcore following, nobody cared about Apple in the mid 90s. Eventually, Steve and Jon, who arguably became the two most important people at Apple during this time, crossed paths. Steve visited Jon at Apple’s studio and witnessed all of these various designs that Jon was working on it and said to him “f*ck, you’ve not been really effective, have you?” Basically, nobody internally cared about Jon’s work. At that meeting, Steve worked on the iMac with him that very day. They did not go and WFH to change the course of Apple forever, influence the internal culture from an endless amount of Facetime meetings. Although we will probably never go back to the five day work week on the tech side of things, and, arguably Apple created the tech that we don’t need to be in the office. Creativity still happens in person. I’m yet to hear about the artist that made their last album working on Zoom or the last ground breaking consumer product that was created over Facetime. As an Apple user, I’m looking forward to seeing how Apple’s Cupertino office will inspire the next generation of hardware and software as their employees will be returning to the office three days a week. Lots of creativity will be happening there. #apple#innovation#workfromhome
